Eco Elves

Text Box: Eco Warriors

St Martin and St Mary's has a child from each class to be the spokesperson for ECO issues at the school and the wider community. These pupils are our eco Waariors, they are passionate about the local area, what they can do to help the environment and how they can educate others.

The school has been awarded the green flag status twice and during our last ECO assessment, Pam Martin the Eco assessor said:

The children can talk enthusiastically but quite naturally about what they have been doing. They are well informed. The board displays are absolutely fantastic and offer clear evidence of curriculum work which has links with the Eco-Schools themes. Well done to everyone and keep up the great work.

The Eco Elves are involved in lots of projects at school, which involve holding assemblies teaching children about how they can save energy, recycle, reuse and reduce. They also go on regular litter picks and update the schools newsletter to inform parents and guardians of the work they are doing and how they can help.

We hold ECO weeks, where all classes took time to learn about the local environment, their impact on the environment and what can be done to help.

The ECO warriors often carry out checks on classrooms to see how ECO friendly it is and will award a certificate in assembly to the most ECO friendly classroom.

On Friday 3rd November Class Y4D and the Eco Warriors went to the park next to Baddeley clock to plant bulbs with people from South Lakeland District Council. Altogether the children planted 1000 daffodil bulbs. It was a great afternoon and everybody worked really hard. We are all looking forward to seeing the daffodils in the spring.
