Hydro Hotel - Re-opening

The Hydro Hotel, Windermere, and youngsters from St Martin and St Mary Church of England Primary School have buried a time capsule.

The event took place to mark the reopening of the hotel, 136 years after its doors first opened.

The school helped contribute to the hotel's capsule with letters to the future, examples of curriculum work and family photographs.

"The pupils contributed to the box with some excellent items and it was pleasing to see how well received the event was by them and we're proud to have enabled them to become a part of history."

Classes from Reception to Year Six contributed, and the capsule will not be opened until after July 13 2117.

A specially made plaque has also been planted to show where it is buried.

Our school council is a group of pupils (2 from each class) elected by their fellow classmates to represent children’s opinions and raise issues with Mrs Gore and governors at St Martin and St Mary C of E Primary School. The school council will also take forward projects on behalf of the children, and be involved in planning and organizing events in the school.

To be effective, we must:

  • Represent all pupils and include as many people as possible;
  • Take time to listen to all pupils and communicate their views;
  • Feed back to pupils about what happened about their views;
  • Make things happen in our school – or explain why they can’t.
