Nursery

Autumn Term 2018

We have welcomed 20 new children into Nursery this term and they are settling in well. Our older children have matured so much over the summer holidays and they are good at showing the younger children what to do. Our outdoor learning area continues to be developed; we now have a ‘Junkyard’ thanks to the hard work put in by Mrs Wood, Miss Hogarth, Mrs Williams and Sam Bell who built a fantastic den for the children. We also had lots of donations from parents throughout the school and we are very grateful to them; our new area looks brilliant!

After the new children have settled in we introduce our weekly themes, beginning with a focus on shape, colour, numbers and reading and writing, and we relate the activities we do to these themes. Later in the term our themes change to looking at traditional stories, including red riding hood, the Three Little Pigs, the 3 Billy Goats Gruff and we have an ‘Enchanted’ week too! These stories enable us to talk about ‘stranger/danger’, which includes a visit from our community police officers.

The term ends, of course with Christmas; the classroom turns in to a wonderful, colourful environment and the children write letters to Father Christmas, make cards, calendars and baubles. Parents are invited to a ‘Come and play’ week where they can see what their children have been doing and are entertained with the children’s singing and we finish with a Nursery party.
